About Corry Andrews
Corry has worked to generate positive change and long term impact for children and families for over thirty years. Before law school, she served as an Americorps (formerly VISTA) volunteer at the Shelter for Help in Emergency in Charlottesville, where she developed a court advocacy program and a local safe home network for victims of intimate partner violence. During law school, Corry interned at the United States Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of New York and the Charlottesville Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, where she prepared witnesses, some of whom were victims of crime, and practiced trial advocacy skills alongside seasoned litigators. After law school, Corry prosecuted juvenile delinquency cases in Bronx Family Court as an Assistant Corporation Counsel, litigating both felony and misdemeanor matters. Uniquely positioned to indirectly assist juveniles in the criminal justice system, she worked with defense attorneys to find appropriate family placements for juveniles in lieu of incarceration.
After relocating to New Mexico in 2000, Corry served as the Native American Youth Law Project Director for DNA-People’s Legal Services, where she investigated legal issues in anticipation of potential litigation that would have a systemic impact on Navajo, Hopi and Jicarilla youth living in poverty. She represented children at school discipline proceedings and taught courses in practical law at reservation high schools. The experience of teaching was illuminating for Corry, who discovered she had an aptitude for connecting with and motivating kids, and she consequently pivoted to a public school teaching career. She taught 8th grade English in metropolitan Atlanta before returning to central Virginia in 2005 to raise a family and pursue her Master of Teaching degree, after which she taught middle school English and History at Albemarle County Public Schools for 11 years. As an educator, Corry served students from a variety of diverse backgrounds and recognized the importance of collaborating with families in order to best serve not only the academic and learning needs but also the social and emotional needs of children.
Due to these varied professional experiences and raising four children following her own divorce, Corry believes the attention of concerned, caring and qualified adults is essential to working with children in any capacity. She is eager to continue advocating for children after returning to the legal profession. Corry is qualified by the Supreme Court of Virginia to serve as a guardian ad litem. Her goal is to tirelessly represent children through advocating what is best for their well-being and safety in both court appointed and private matters.
Corry is the mother of four high school and college aged children and co-parents with their father in Nelson County. She enjoys volunteering at her children’s schools, hiking with her Golden Retriever, traveling, and spending time with her fiancé.
