A Handbook for Parents and Guardians in Child Dependency Cases

by | Mar 29, 2017

This handbook was created to help explain the court process to parents and guardians who are involved in foster care cases.  Being involved in the court system can be very overwhelming and confusing.  There are many attorneys involved and numerous court appearances.   This handbook explains the definition of abuse and neglect, explains how the family services specialist will help, and outlines when court hearings are held and what to expect at each hearing. This is a great resource for anyone who wants to better understand the entire process, from a child’s removal from a home to the child either being safely returned or another permanent arrangement outside the home being made.  Source:  http://www.courts.state.va.us/courtadmin/aoc/cip/home.html.
